“BJJ is a essential part of my life, where I find happiness. It is where I learn how to fight inside and outside of the mat, it is where I test myself and my limits always trying to get better on everything I do, it is where I build friendships that will last a lifetime, it is what makes me Physically healthy and mentally balanced and finally now more than ever it is my tool to change people’s life and get them to share with me the same benefits of this great lifestyle.”
Professor Marcio Lemos is Co Founder of Gracie Barra Pymble and Gracie Barra Hornsby
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is centered round the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless.
To control and overcome greater size, strength and aggression with lesser size and strength is the keynote of the sport. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body.
“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”.
Professor Marcio Lemos started training martial arts when he was 15 years old, through Capoeira. He has had the privilege of receiving coaching from many jiu-jitsu legends, such as Marcelo Rezende, Max Jonas, Marcio Feitosa, Flavio Almeida Roberto Tussa, and Master Carlos Gracie Jr.
He was born in the city of Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. In 2004 he migrated to New Zealand where he lived and taught Jiu-Jitsu in the city of Queenstown for two years. In 2006 he migrated to Sydney where he began practicing jiu-jitsu under professor Marcelo Rezende and became part of the Gracie Barra family.
