“BJJ is a essential part of my life, where I find happiness. It is where I learn how to fight inside and outside of the mat, it is where I test myself and my limits always trying to get better on everything I do, it is where I build friendships that will last a lifetime, it is what makes me Physically healthy and mentally balanced and finally now more than ever it is my tool to change people’s life and get them to share with me the same benefits of this great lifestyle.”
Professor Marcio Lemos is Co Founder of Gracie Barra Pymble and Gracie Barra Hornsby
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is centered round the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless.
To control and overcome greater size, strength and aggression with lesser size and strength is the keynote of the sport. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body.
“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”.
Professor Marcio Lemos started training martial arts when he was 15 years old, through Capoeira. He has had the privilege of receiving coaching from many jiu-jitsu legends, such as Marcelo Rezende, Max Jonas, Marcio Feitosa, Flavio Almeida Roberto Tussa, and Master Carlos Gracie Jr.
He was born in the city of Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. In 2004 he migrated to New Zealand where he lived and taught Jiu-Jitsu in the city of Queenstown for two years. In 2006 he migrated to Sydney where he began practicing jiu-jitsu under professor Marcelo Rezende and became part of the Gracie Barra family.
"Discipline and consistency, I owe these two factors all I have attained in my life. Things have never happened overnight. Results are derived from and as a consequence of decades of hard work. It is necessary to persist"
Master Carlos Gracie Jr.

With all the modern conviniences in life, Kids and Teens find it difficult to learn and practice foundation values that will assist them in tackling all aspects of growing up, maturing and becoming a productive member of society. I truely believe that Jiu Jitsu can make the difference in teaching our young people the value of relentlessness, perserverance and discipline.
I began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2014 after trying many different sports growing up and never have I experienced anything in comparison. Since my first class at Gracie Barra Hornsby and that feeling of earning my first stripe, Jiu jitsu rapidly became a huge part of my life and I truly believe it has been an overwhelming contributor towards character development – both mentally and physically.
Seeing my instructors and training partners as role models, and watching them teach and share knowledge, I was motivated to do the same thing so I began assisting with kids classes at Hornsby up until I received my blue belt from Professor Marcio Lemos in 2015. Hornsby’s “brother school” in Pymble was beginning to grow, so I then began to assist with the GBK program there and since then have never looked back.
Today, my passion for Jiu-Jitsu continues to grow stronger as I am constantly reminded by my instructors and peers after every training session that this is the most rewarding and life changing sport I have ever witnessed. I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team of passionate athletes and I look forward to continuously riding the forward momentum that is created within the walls of Gracie Barra Pymble.
Professor Vincent Pang was born in Hong Kong and moved to the UK in 1999. As a teenager, he was inspired by several Hong Kong martial arts icons and started learning Wing Chun Kung Fu from his father. Vincent received his first taste of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2005 whilst at university and began training informally with a group of friends in the student sports centre. It wasn’t until his time in Bristol as a Masters student did he start formal classes, training with Trojan Freefighters BJJ under Professor Italo Ferreira.
After the completion of his Masters degree, Vincent moved to Nottingham to begin his PhD and discovered a new academy in the form of Gracie Barra Mansfield, led by Professor Victor Estima. Since then, he has remained with Victor in the Midlands, including the transition of his main academy to the centre of Nottingham. During this time, Vincent was the head instructor of the University of Nottingham Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club, and taught occasionally at Gracie Barra Nottingham.
Shortly after receiving his black belt from Victor in 2017, Vincent moved to Sydney where he now teaches and trains at Gracie Barra Pymble alongside his job as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.
